I didn't see much--if any--in the article that mentions economics. Niger has a lot of molybdenum, coal, uranium, oil, iron, among other natural resources. My guess is that it's what it's always about--money. I believe Africa will shortly be the new battleground for proxy conflict. I would be embarrassed to acknowledge the UK imperializing Niger for many years. It seems to be the same, but more subtle. Or slick. Take your pick on that one.
